Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) continues to look for additional protections to further enhance worker safety by testing air-purifying respirator cartridges connected directly to known vapor sources. This first-of-a-kind test allows WRPS to measure how much protection respirator cartridges can provide against tank vapors. This photo shows a tank farms worker preparing the test. The goal of the project is to qualify protective equipment that will provide appropriate and effective respiratory controls necessary to ensure employees are protected when working in and around the tank farms. Testing has been completed in four locations, and data from those tests is being collected and analyzed at Hanford’s 222-S Laboratory. This is one of several projects WRPS is managing that aim to further improve worker safety at Hanford’s tank farms.
